This course introduces students to the basics of drafting. A student learns safety rules and regulations, how to utilize drafting tools, how to sketch and letter, and how to format drawings. Drafting fundamentals are stressed.

In today's world, CAD software is used in almost every business to keep a company at the forefront of technological advancement. Manufacturing, design and architectural fields make extensive use of these CAD programs. A major focus of the course is on creating and altering CAD drawings from blueprints or schematics. Students who complete the program will have the skills necessary for entry-level draftsperson positions in organizations that provide mechanical and design services. Students' skills will also be enhanced, which will increase their employability.
